These are the best hotels in Germany: the “Michelin Guide” for 2025

It's well known that the Michelin Guide annually honors the most outstanding restaurants. Since 2024, the culinary guide has also been awarding ratings for the hotel industry.
The award is given independently of the star rating of the establishments, it is stated. Instead, it highlights accommodations that stand out through their architectural features, professional expertise, and individual design. The new award is called the "Michelin Key," and one to three such keys are awarded. We present the award-winning hotels in Germany.
A total of 130 hotels in Germany have received one of the awards. To select the hotels, numerous hotels were tested during unannounced, anonymous stays, as the company explains. "Each of these hotels was tested and found to be excellent in five categories," writes the Michelin Guide. The categories are "architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, personality and character, value for money, and a significant contribution to the guest experience."
Six hotels in Germany have once again received the highest award, with three Keys, and are thus "the ultimate in comfort and service, style, and elegance." These include Schloss Elmau, where a suite is correspondingly expensive—around €2,000 per night. Or the venerable Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg, whose suites offer exclusive views of the Alster Lake.

These six hotels are the best in Germany according to the Michelin Guide:
Hotel Bareiss
The Hotel Bareiss in Baiersbronn-Mitteltal is one of the most famous hotels in the Black Forest. The family-run resort combines traditional country-style accommodations with modern amenities and extensive wellness offerings. The Michelin Guide notes: "The elegant rooms feature opulent details such as fresh bouquets, fireplaces, wall coverings, and luxurious bed linens."

The hotel is also particularly known for its cuisine: The Bareiss restaurant, run by chef Claus-Peter Lumpp, has held three Michelin stars for years and is considered one of the best restaurants in the country.
Hotel Traube Tonbach
Also located in Baiersbronn is the Hotel Traube Tonbach, a traditional five-star superior hotel run by the Finkbeiner family since 1789. Many of the approximately 140 contemporary rooms, apartments, and suites offer views of the surrounding Black Forest nature.

Several restaurants provide culinary delights, including the Schwarzwaldstube, which has been awarded three Michelin stars.
Elmau Castle
Schloss Elmau Luxury Spa Retreat & Cultural Hideaway is a five-star superior resort in the Bavarian Alps. The Michelin Guide writes: "From the outside, it's a classic mountain resort. Upon closer inspection, it's a contemporary luxury hotel."

Guests can choose from several spa areas, featuring outdoor infinity pools, a Japanese onsen, and an oriental hammam. The castle also offers seven restaurants, including the two-Michelin-starred Ikigai.
Fairmont Hotel Four Seasons
The Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten is located directly on Hamburg's Inner Alster Lake. This traditional five-star superior hotel offers a total of 156 rooms and suites. According to the Michelin Guide, the style is true to the hotel's 19th-century roots, but full of subtle modern amenities.

The Vier Jahreszeiten spoils its guests with culinary delights in seven restaurants and three bars, including the two-Michelin-starred Haerlin, which serves French cuisine.
The Fontenay
Another highlight in Hamburg is the modern five-star superior hotel The Fontenay. Opened in 2018, the hotel is located directly on the Outer Alster Lake and is characterized by its organic architecture and extensive wellness area.

According to the Michelin Guide, the 130 rooms and suites offer every conceivable comfort for a private retreat, including touchscreens, walk-in closets, rain showers, and heated floors. The hotel pampers its guests with culinary delights at the Lakeside Restaurant, which has been awarded two Michelin stars.
Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt
The Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt in Rottach-Egern is a five-star superior hotel that opened in 2001. With 176 rooms, including 53 suites, the hotel offers comfortable accommodations with views of Lake Tegernsee and the foothills of the Alps. "There's no trace of Bavarian kitsch – instead, a surprisingly vibrant style permeates the luxuriously modern ambience," writes the Michelin Guide.
In addition to the spacious wellness area, the hotel boasts five restaurants, including the Michelin-starred Überfahrt.
